Between the ACSR's case-by-case approach and the Corporation's inertia, Harvard's recent investment record has been confusing at best. Although the Corporation espouses a policy of owning voting stock in companies to insure that it can influence corporate practices through shareholder resolutions, it retains $40 million worth of non-voting notes in General Motors Assistance Corporation (GMAC). Lawrence F. Stevens '65, the ACSR secretary, says the investment "may be worth an ACSR review" in the future. Tatar credits the Core with inspiring a new interdisciplinary approach in the German Department. "Normally our courses emphasize literary analysis," Tatar observes, noting that her course will be one of "the first attempts in our department to bring in the historical and interdisciplinary dimensions...
...latest offering to an adoring public, Cruel Shoes--this pissant of a volume--is a milestone of the publishing industry; the perfection of the minimalist approach to writing. At his best in behind-the-scenes maneuvering, he led a protracted effort to get the Front Line African states, as well as South Africa, to agree to an independent Namibia. Talking to the press last week, McHenry lamented the high visibility of his new post...
While fishing in Plains, Ga., last April, President Carter glanced up to discover the approach of an unusual foe -an enraged rabbit. Just why a rabbit was swimming straight for the Carter canoe, teeth flashing and nostrils flaring, was unclear. Carter later surmised that perhaps the creature was fleeing an attacker. In any event, he did the sensible thing. He fended off the animal with a paddle. That at least was what they were saying around the White House last week. Claimed they had a picture showing the whole thing, but no, they were not about to release it. Said...
