...editors: In her column “Stripper Ergo…Rape,” (Apr. 12), Ashton Lattimore argues that “when women treat each other in…a cruel and disrespectful manner, it opens the door for men to do the same.” Even though the most fair-minded would concur that agreeing to dance at a party full of drunken, under-aged athletes is a risk probably not worth taking, this is hardly tantamount to giving license for the accuser to be raped. Lattimore also fails to recognize that when...
...editors: Re: “Party’s Over: Currier TLR To Be Reading Room,” news, Apr. 17. I was surprised that the article written about the renovations planned for Currier House was titled “Party’s Over.” The party is not over. The article gives the impression that Currier House is losing its trademark party space and that there is a heavy amount of disapproval within the House for the changes. After soliciting input from Currier residents, however, the Currier House Committee found that the renovations are overwhelmingly...
...editors: The editorial “UC, Stick to Your Guns” (Apr. 20) is unreasonable and seems to ignore the fact that religion is defined by personal beliefs. While in modern times religious groups often see fit to emphasize the similarities rather than the differences between different religions, and most religious groups are quite willing to have nonmembers present for most services and social activities, religions are still defined by different, often inherently contradictory beliefs, and it would be absurd for members of a religious group like the Asian American Christian Fellowship to be led by someone...
...editors: I was rather disappointed to read Brendan Hodge’s “Getting Around” (comment, Apr. 14). I grant you that sarcasm is essentially the second language of all Harvard students, but Hodge unfortunately does not understand the line between being funny and playful, and being obnoxious. Besides the general condescending tone, the simple fact of the matter is that most people at Harvard do walk most of the time (while at school anyway); if Hodge has evidence to the contrary, I’d be fascinated to see it. Furthermore, Hodge makes factual errors...
...editors: I wholeheartedly disagree with your castigation of the U.S. for its opposition to the newly-adopted UN Human Rights Council (“Reforming the UN,” editorial, Apr. 12). Opposing the Council is not a “show of disregard for multilateralism and compromise” but rather a vote for effective human rights protection. The new Council is not an improvement from its predecessor, the UN Human Rights Commission. Other than where a country is located, there is not a single criterion for membership, and countries must rotate off the Council after...
