Among Garth's other candidates is a sentimental favorite, Senator Jennings Randolph, 76, a Democrat from West Virginia, who first served in Congress 46 years ago and has never felt any need to use this newfangled television. This year he is in a tight fight against former Governor Arch Moore, so Garth was called in. Result: half of Randolph's $500,000 campaign chest will be used on television. One spot shows Randolph preaching fervently to a cluster of coal miners about his long struggle to get them adequate health benefits. He comes across as jolly, energetic...
...people and while his lead may be slipping a little, he still believes he will be the next governor of Massachusetts. Saturday spelled a sort of victory for him--the president came to show support for him, claiming there is enough room in the Democratic party to accommodate arch conservative types like King. In the same way that he didn't know which league the Sox play baseball in, perhaps Carter doesn't know King's league either. ...buoys. Don't miss 'em, it's ten seconds, but cut it real close--this saves more time than you can imagine. Watch out for crews on your outside (you did get the inside of the turn, didn't you, squirt?) and cut across the river into the center arch, taking ten to push it home. Stay calm, oars over the buoys on that last turn by Belmont Hill...
