...arc of the sports movie is such that we know we're going to have to sit through some defeats, some victories and a championship match, which of course turns out to be scheduled for the same night as one of Bliss' beauty pageants. Barrymore does a capable job with these action sequences, although tiny little Page is not the likeliest of derby contenders and the sport has such a cartoon aspect that it seems about as likely to become a national craze as Barrymore's Toronto hair style...

On Sept. 21, SJM Holdings, controlled by long-time Macau gambling king Stanley Ho, opened the French-themed, 170-table Casino L'Arc. It is SJM's 17th casino in the city, and the company plans to launch another, Casino Oceanus, by the end of the year. ...inherently listenable, in the fashion of “Red and Purple,” off “Visiter.” “This Is A Business” eschews the snail-pace that many of the other songs fall into. Also to its credit, its arc is the most emergent of the set. But its experimental tuning and discordant guitar work nearly negates a brief, but shining, moment of Beatlesque pop. Unfortunately the middle of the song goes off into a slow, jarring tangent, and the song’s momentum is stymied by unnecessary noodlings...
