Lean beef, fat beef, beef tongue, liver, brain, marrow: that is what two men ate and it is all they ate: for 21 days, Vilhjalmur Stefansson, famed Arctic explorer; for 57 days, his friend and erstwhile companion, Karsten Anderson, whose present business is orange growing. Last week, the trial done, Dr. Stefansson went straight to Fairfield, Conn., where after a dinner of beef tongue by choice, he testimonialed: "Before the experiment I felt lackadaisical on getting up in the morning but now I feel like jumping out of bed and getting right to work...
Back & forth across the paved courtyard of Manhattan's Bellevue Hospital, Arctic Explorer Vilhjalmur Stefansson, rugged as a caribou, strode last week with ten meat-eating companions. On nothing but fresh killed meat did they subsist during the week, and nothing other than fresh meat were they to eat for fourteen days. Wellknown Arctic explorers declare that it takes about 100 years or more for these huge masses to form in the glacier fields, and it is because these bergs are so solidly formed in rock-like strata that it is so difficult to demolish them. It takes the bergs about one year to drift down from Baffin Bay to the Northern area of the Banks. Their length at this time averages about five city blocks, while their height runs from 200 to 300 feet. It was calculated that...
