...amount of footage into a clear summary of the Swiss involvement with Nazi gold during and after World War II. Film clips from Europe and America, from World War II and present, are neatly combined to form a cohesive synthesis. Blood Money makes a coherent and damaging, if biased, argument against the Swiss for their role in helping the Nazis hide the plunder they took from Jews and other victims of their regime. The moving testimony of many Holocaust survivors who are still seeking to recover money trapped by the secretive Swiss banking system is far more powerful than...
Kinski barely registers. In her early scenes with Snipes she is vulnerably cute, after which she just stands around looking hopelessly vacant. She is upstaged by Wen (who played June in The Joy Luck Club). Snipes and Wen have great chemistry, taking an argument about a dress and twisting it beautifully into a full-out tete-a-tete. And with Louise reportedly set to reap a possible $100,000 for selling her story to a British magazine when she eventually returns home, the court of public opinion is sure to remain in session...
...With the character of Kaczynski's peers so crucial to his case, selection will be contentious. Each side has 20 chances to reject a juror without argument -- choosing 12 and 6 alternates will probably take several weeks. "Anyone who is overly sympathetic, or who refuses to vote the death penalty, will be left off," Jackson says. "This jury will be death-penalty qualified...
