The only remaining restrictions on women warriors, all of whom receive combat training, are the 1948 statute forbidding them to serve on combat vessels and planes and the formal Army policy barring them from combat branches such as infantry and armor...

...words, Tanzania's President Julius Nyerere urged the U.S. and Britain to renew and strengthen their efforts to bring peace to Rhodesia. The call came against a backdrop of increasingly violent warfare in that embattled country, where Cuban-trained black nationalist guerrillas are now using Soviet-supplied mortars, armor-piercing machine guns and heat-seeking antiaircraft missiles to battle Rhodesian forces equipped with helicopters, heavy artillery and Belgian automatic weapons. The only hopeful example he gives, however, is San Diego. Using a voluntary system, the city has kept the level of white flight down (below 6% per year). But the increase in the actual number of whites and nonwhites going to school together...

Perhaps significantly, Armor does not confront a fact that most parents, blacks especially, need no sociologist to remind them of. Without the constant threat of busing and the steady prodding of the courts, the amount of "voluntary" school integration in San Diego and elsewhere would probably have never occurred...
