Groton kicked off to Watson who ran the ball to the middle of the field before he was thrown. A series of hard line-plunges and a pretty 20-yard run by Mahan around left end brought the ball to Groton's 30-yard line. At this point Watson tried a forward pass but the ball went wild and play was resumed again on the 30-yard line. A few minutes later Mahan kicked a field goal from the 20-yard line, the first score of the game...
...Harvard squad has on it men who may be depended upon to turn out a team well up to the standard. Holy Cross, indeed, was not as strong as advance notices gave to understand, but it was nevertheless encouraging to see the University line hold and the backs tear around end and plunge through the line at will. Teams A and B then lined up for scrimmage, the ball being given to the former in the centre of the field.
