...Piece of Idiocy. Despite the array of testimonials, the record contained evidence that clearly gave the board majority serious doubts about Oppenheimer as a security risk. In the list of witnesses against J. Robert Oppenheimer, the most effective was J. Robert Oppenheimer himself. His testimony showed that he had lied repeatedly in the past about important security matters. What he said in the hearing caused the board to comment, mildly enough, that Oppenheimer was even now being "less than candid." The most telling example of Oppenheimer's past capacity for untruths was drawn out in cross-examination about...

Dazed by this array of great names and convinced that all would be lost anyway if the Russians got them, an impressive number of Robert's listeners pledged homes and savings to join his cause. At a small but moving ceremony in a Belgian convent at Ronse (The Netherlands was not yet ready for C.C.S.D., explained Robert), the members, all fitted out in bright new uniforms, reaffirmed their brilliantly caparisoned President in his great office. The walls were tastefully banked with flowers purportedly sent by "Winnie" and "Nottie," and President Robert was proud indeed as he displayed a letter...

Queen Mary's personality and taste were evident throughout the exhibition, from the lacy finery she wore on festive occasions (exhibited on dressmaker's dummies at the entrance) to the staggering array of bibelots that had caught the royal eye. There were finely fashioned items of Chinese jade, Chelsea porcelain, Battersea enamel, Neapolitan piqué (tortoise shell or ivory inlaid with gold or silver), case after case of tiny, exquisite baubles, splendid examples of the jeweler's and goldsmith...

...last moments of each love scene were replaced. Schnitzler's theme, that love is a bore, is almost as dated as some of his dialogue, and in several episodes, the words become forced and stilted in an effort to produce the double meaning and the sly implication. An imposing array of French stardom, from Gerard Philipe to Danielle Darrieux, does manage to salvage some of the bedtime satire. Coupled with Walbrook's performance, scenes such as the affair between The Wife and The Student leave a residue of genuine humor...

...Army brass will move wearily into the third week of their seemingly endless wrangle over the military career of a 26-year-old private named Gerard David Schine. To many it seems incredible that the fortunes of this young man should demand the sustained attention of such an array of talent, and should obsess the nation by press and TV. But to most of those who knew Dave Schine '49 at Harvard it is no surprise...
