This model is similar, on a small scale, to what William Fisher, director of the Berkman Center, outlines in Promises to Keep, his forthcoming book on digital copyright. Under Fisher’s system, a government-managed distribution network would record when people accessed the work, then pay the artist in proportion to the number of hits...
Vijay Mallya, chairman of the UB Group, India's largest liquor conglomerate, is getting a touchup. The businessman and flamboyant socialite-whose toys include racehorses, sports cars and soccer teams-lounges beside the swimming pool of his seaside mansion in Goa while a makeup artist brushes dye into his beard. The hues perfectly match the copper tints already gleaming in Mallya's hair. Rifle-toting security guards keep watch while his wonder-struck guests sip beer and wander about the pleasure dome's grounds...
...unprofessional review of the Harvard student performance Forte! reads like someone who didn’t want to be there (Arts, “Arts Do Not Prove Summers’ ‘Forte,’” Oct. 27). Onstage, Chuang was musical even when not playing, as her body swayed and danced with the orchestral accompaniment. The BachSoc really came through in this piece with a rich sound and excellent...
...multifaceted artist, Ndegeocello’s style has been difficult to essentialize. While it has familiar elements from previous albums, Comfort lacks the dynamism and shock value of her debut Plantation Lullabies and the chilling introspection of Bitter. The various love songs, which do depart most of today’s popular music, still fall flat in light of her past work. Comfort Woman is a fitting name—Ndegeocello refrains from taking any risks, staying firmly in her comfort zone...
