This is a lot more difficult that it sounds. Momma as played by Anne Ramsey gives new meaning to the word overbearing. She orders Owen around mercilessly, calling him a "clumsy poop" and a "lard-ass". Ramsey's performance is so eccentric and so funny that it is almost shocking. She seems to have arrived from another planet, one inhabited by creatures that are not exactly human...
ANOTHER relief is that Mamet does a much better job mimicking the cadences of the criminals' speech. He even begins to write in some jokes. (One of the con men talks about being a member of "the United States of Kiss My Ass.") Iran is a target ripe for serious U.S. ass-kicking. The spectical of the U.S. pounding Iranian military targets in retaliation for any provocation would not only meet with the approval of American prime-time viewers, but would also show in a Grenada-like fashion that the U.S. is here to play ball and not just take abuse from international gnats...
