After screaming in joy at the top of her lungs, she joined forces with other hysterical BSB fans and belted out the song ("with all the hidden oohs and ahhs," she commented afterwards) while limping around and falling on her ass occasionally. When the song was done, she resumed her helpless position on the couch. I wanted to poke fun at her, but I couldn't-I'm the one responsible for getting her hooked on the BSB since I sent her to their concert in September to write that...
...cheeky touches of humor (a sample of a woman moaning "Oh Groove Armada" had the crowd visibly laughing). Of course, some self-promotion was in order, and indeed it seemed to be what the crowd expected. The upbeat tracks from Vertigo were aired out, with the cheeky "shakin' that ass" line of their own "I See You Baby" receiving the biggest reaction of the night...
...focus on the band. One of our guys, Eric Pfeiffer '81, was from Montana and got us a tour there through an agent he knew. We did this totally absurd tour of roadhouses in Montana during the summer of '80. It was a real kick in the ass...a real Blues Brothers type of scenario: people throwing stuff, getting fired in the middle of gigs. I had an interesting conversation with a guy in Eureka, which is just ten miles from the Canadian border. It's the kind of place where bald eagles roost on trees...
...evening of Wednesday, March 29, was cold. Too many evenings of freezing my ass off in long lines in front of Avalon waiting for Avaland made me none too quick to arrive much earlier than doors at seven. The event was general admission, and as all seasoned concertgoers know, unless you want the very front row at a small club, there is no reason why early arrival is imperative. But I had forgotten that the show was all-ages, and most of those present were under 18. The line in front of Avalon horizontally stretched back to Jillian...
