...messenger is as entertaining as his message is fervid. Fuller, 53, is an Ichabod Crane look-alike who is incessantly joking, cajoling, commoving, pressing, pleading for Habitat. He leans and swaggers, hunches his shoulders, pokes his head and forms grandfather spiders with his lean hands, which are constantly aswirl. He still crows about the sales pitch he made to former President Jimmy Carter: "I said to him, 'Sir, are you interested in Habitat for Humanity, or are you very interested?' " Since 1984 Carter has been one of Habitat's celebrity supporters, along with Bob Hope, Paul Newman and Amy Grant...

...should know. Last week 70 aggrieved workers picketed the agency's Washington headquarters, charging that the air inside was so contaminated that it caused burning eyes, fatigue, dizziness, and even made breathing difficult. Despite bright, well-scrubbed appearances, many of today's workplaces are aswirl with noxious pollutants. With a small army of 300 kimono-clad saleswomen amid the racks, Mitsukoshi officials expect to sell $2.1 million worth of the traditional Japanese garments before the sale ends Sept...

...Friend exudes vo-do-de-o-do period flavor, and visually it is aswirl with flamboyant color and movement. Its frequent fantasy sequences, however, are too frequent and sometimes not fantastic enough (a Grecian episode disastrously resembles a small town Hellenic Society on its spring outing). The best numbers are the homages to Berkeley, with their overhead shots of chorines in kaleidoscope patterns. Aficionados of old movie musicals will love these scenes-but not as much as Russell, who can hardly bring himself to end them. A spoof of a spoof, this two-hour-plus film sometimes seems to reprise...
