Senior track standout Jim Baker was awarded the William J. Bingham Award--Harvard's highest athletic honor--last night at the senior letter-winners banquet at the Harvard Club of Boston.
While the athletic department still has not decided whether the team will be allowed to go the NCAA championships next month. Harvard's invitation to play is a tribute to Keefe's leadership.
In 1951, he won the National Amateur Athletic Union's 125-pound championship. He placed third in the National Collegiate Athletic Association's annual championships in 1952 and fourth in 1953. Few Harvard wrestlers--or even Ivy League wrestlers--achieve such national ranking.
But it didn't make any difference in the overall House intramural competition as Winthrop captured its first Straus Trophy--Harvard's symbol of House athletic supremacy--in 34 years.
Wilson will present the Trophy to Winthrop Athletic Secretary Larry Hunter at a special dinner at Winthrop next Monday evening
