...Bresse stuffed with foie gras (and an amazing cheese cart), I felt as pampered as a Parisian lapdog. At a fraction of the price but still a good value, Chez Paul (13, Rue de Charonne) delivers lace-curtained, cassoulet-slinging bistro fare. Georges, the whimsical Philippe Starck-- designed restaurant atop the Pompidou Centre, offers simple Mediterranean selections and one of the truly spectacular views of the city...
...screeches toward the front of the convoy, and gunmen inside open fire on the U.S. soldiers. Through his night-vision goggles, Turner spots three men carrying rocket-propelled-grenade launchers racing toward the stalled convoy. Bullets are zinging in from fields. The gunners atop the humvees open up with their .50-cal. machine guns, and red tracer bullets carve across the darkness. With its dramatic corner location, Tatami Room 1 may be the most spectacular of all, so book well ahead. Been there and done that? Then check out these other sky-high tables...

From the fortress, I devoured the panoramic view of the Tuscan countryside. In the distance, the grapevine leaves were as colorful as New England's best in October. Clumps of olive trees and upright cypresses were shadowed by the brooding Mount Amiata. The whole ambiance was distilled in the Brunello I was drinking...
With a tall Starbucks coffee in hand, Showalter casually strolled up to me wearing a green corduroy blazer, a black collared shirt, pink pants, white shoes, and rock star sun glasses atop his meticulously coiffed hair. Lean, friendly, and stubbled, Showalter is the perfect hybrid of laid-back cool and offbeat metrosexual...
