...team had scored one touchdown, but Harvard had failed to kick goal, and with the score at 6 to 5 Dartmouth was pushing steadily down the field for what seemed sure to be another touchdown. On the 25-yard line, however, the University eleven finally succeeded in stopping the attack, and with the strength of desperation, pounded through Dartmouth's line until the ball was eventually forced behind the goalposts. Even then victory was not assured; but a moment or two later, several long runs resulted in the final touchdown of the game and wrested a hard-won, though...
...score of 26 to 12. Both of Dartmouth's scores at that time were made on blocked kicks, so that the score does not truly indicate the extent to which the losing team was outplayed. Dartmouth has developed a remarkably strong back-field, and with an attack which for speed and general ground-gaining qualities is exceptional will present a valuable test of Harvard's defense...
...allowed one field-goal, but in general defensive work Yale outclasses Princeton. No eleven has made consistent gains through the Yale line. Dewitt's kicking is superior to Bowman's, but this advantage for Princeton is likely to be more than counterbalanced by the effectiveness of Yale's running attack, in which the tackles and at times the ends are used in alternation with the backs to advance the ball...
Everything that has helped to make the playing of the team so discouraging all fall could be seen in the work yesterday. Together with the usual fumbling, there was a weaker defense than has been seen for a long time hitherto, and an attack that could not gain on mass plays and received but little help from the individual playing which has been the team's chief reliance of late. The first eleven could score only twice, and then only by long end runs. The second team, on the other hand, forced the University eleven to punt a number...
...picked team of candidates for the University lacrosse team defeated a team of graduate players yesterday afternoon by a score of 7 goals to 1. The candidates won through their superior team play, as the graduates were greatly handicapped in this respect by lack of practice. The graduate attack was very weak and lacked fight. Captain Penhallow played a steady, aggressive game at centre and held the team well together. Bennett at third attack played a brilliant but somewhat erratic game. For the graduates, Sever and Wynne played the best games. UNDERGRADUATES. GRADUATES. Tomlinson, g. g., McConaghy Tufts...
