During a concert with Stevie Wonder, for example, we watch Mick Jagger awkwardly attempt to share a mike with the blind musician. He bends over Stevie's piano bench, dodges the waves of his unknowing head, looks exasperated and finally gives up. The one close-up on Stevie himself captures him as he accidentally knocks his dark glasses off and fumbles to slip them back...

...audience to rise above the prejudice, infighting and blindness portrayed in the film. But it's a copout. Lee is trying to distance himself from the harshness of the world he has depicted. But the audience has been bombarded with animosity and anger for two relentless hours. Lee's attempt to depict some sort of reconciliation is too little too late...

WHEN you travel anywhere in the world and say you're from Chicago, people will hold their arms pretending to wield a submachine gun and make rat-a-tat noises with huge, simpering grins on their faces--a futile attempt at portraying the city's gangster heritage. When you say that you live in Boston, people stretch out their arms to mimic driving a race car and make horrible screeching noises, with grimaces of abject horror on their faces. This shows an astute and intimate knowledge of the city...
