...White House in January. The North has tested its second nuclear bomb (the first test was in October 2006) as well as a long-range missile and has said it has no intention of ever rejoining the so-called six-party talks - the Bush Administration's ultimately futile attempt to get the North to, in effect, re-enact the Agreed Framework of the Clinton era. ...Last year, pro-Western President Viktor Yushchenko irked the Russian Orthodox leadership with an unsuccessful attempt to unite both patriarchates in Ukraine into one independent church, without involvement from Moscow. Kirill, too, would like to see both branches united, but not in a way that would satisfy Yushchenko - last week, the patriarch called for members of the two churches to unite under his leadership. ...Forgetting Sarah Marshall and Pineapple Express made about four times their openers. People saw these movies, told their friends they were funny and made them hits. The new movie will be hard pressed to duplicate that word-of-mouth salesmanship. For most audiences, Apatow's 2-hr. 24-min. attempt to encase a James L. It is encouraging to read that some dedicated researchers are busy in the field despite the so-called evidence, to date, that their efforts are just a beautiful idea. Mankind must pray for their success. Balram Mishra, Ghaziabad, India...
...Tsvangirai's gamble. He wants the people who tried to kill him to believe he bears no grudge. (Since his wife died in March in a car accident in which he was also hurt, Tsvangirai finds himself repeatedly assuring his supporters that the crash was not another murder attempt.) He wants Zimbabweans and the world to rethink how they deal with Mugabe and other African Big Men. Demonizing them may be principled and cathartic, Tsvangirai believes, but it is ineffective. Criticism has done nothing to dislodge Muammar Gaddafi in Libya (in his 40th year in power) or José Eduardo...
