Several years ago an attempt was made at Columbia to hold a ball, but owing to the poor reception the ball met with, succeeding classes did not care to renew the experiment. Representatives of Columbia, Cornell, and the University of Pennsylvania have signed an agreement to row an eight-oared three-mile race in June at New London. This will be Cornell's first attempt at training an eight-oared crew although her four has frequently met the University of Pennsylvania in the annual contest for the Childs Cup. Pennsylvania has rowed at New London before, with representatives of Yale. ...Nevins, '90, of Orange, N. J., a student at Cornell, lost his life on Thursday last in an attempt to save a young lady from drowning. The young lady broke through the ice while skating, and Nevins sprung in to rescue her. It is thought that she clasped him so as to impede his movements, for though an expert swimmer. he soon sank. His body was recovered in about twenty minutes, but several hours' work with electrical and other applications produced no effect. The young lady's body was recovered later. This is the third drowning accident at Cornell...
