ENCOURAGED by the success of his first attempt, "Harvard and its Surroundings," Mr. King has extended the field of his operations to the neighboring metropolis, and has produced a handbook of Boston. It is, indeed, profusely illustrated, as the title-page states, and the illustrations are of a very heterogeneous character, - wood-cuts, engravings, heliotypes, albertypes, etc. all jumbled together. The book is also profusely crammed with advertisements, which the title-page does not state, - perhaps because it is perfectly evident, for a view of the Mutual Life Insurance Co.'s building occupies most of the page. ATHLETICS.Amateur Ten-Miles. - An amateur championship belt for this distance has been offered by the Boston Y. M. C. A. Athletic Club, and is open to New England amateurs only. If there were only some man in this University who would make the attempt to win this belt for Harvard, we are sure he would be encouraged by all in college who are interested in athletics. The feeling that it is not "quite the thing" to enter amateur races never influences men who are anxious to compare their strength with that of men other than those they have beaten...
