...Quad on Friday night, the campus will be divided in two. Though the Harvard College Dean’s Office is quick with assurances that it will fund extra shuttles between the Quad and Harvard Square that night, the simple fact is that, with few exceptions, Quadlings will attend the parties in the Quad, and River-dwellers those in the River Houses. And no matter how much fun the divided Friday night party scene proves to be, the exciting possibility of having the whole College together on each of the two nights preceding The Game is now lost. ...Federal regulations require that top officials use commercial airlines unless the trip can't be accommodated by a commercial carrier. Travel for speeches, to attend conferences or for routine field inspections doesn't justify a private plane, according to Waxman's reading of the regulations. ...prospect of citizen's juries may not do the trick of pulling them into the fold any more than another promise Royal cavalierly tossed out in the debate: that she would let the public attend the Council of Ministers, the formal meetings of the president with all his or her ministers. They only happen once a week, and they're pretty boring. Maybe a better way to help everyone participate in French society would be to get them jobs...

...religion is clearly on students’ minds. The preliminary general education report says that 94 percent of Harvard’s incoming students talk about religion frequently or occasionally, and 71 percent say they attend religious services. And with 26 different religions represented on campus in the United Ministry at Harvard alone, wouldn’t it be better to inform students’ discussions with historical and social context...
