Reunification and the final settlement of the Berlin problem probably must attend the settlement of other issues. If disarmament could be agreed upon, then many of the hurdles in the path of reunification could be removed. Until that time, partial demilitarization of Central Europe as envisaged in the Eden and Rapacki plans may be a healthy temporary move. It would not leave Germany a neutral unit helpless before Soviet subversion, but it might lower the tension to some degree and stimulate further disarmament...
...Phone. Spirit soared for the Falcons' game with heavily favored Iowa six weeks ago. Cadet officers pleaded with the Commandant. Brigadier General Henry R. Sullivan, for permission to attend the game at Iowa City. The general countered with an offer to let the cadets go to the Stanford game in Palo Alto. Still doomed to attend makeshift classes in churches and lodge halls-or none at all-were 13,000 white children. Floundering along with no plan for tidying up the mess. Governor Almond heard a growing rumble of protest from parents and teachers. Items...
...hope of traveling abroad (the last time a Pope left Italy was 1804, when a reluctant Pius VII went to Paris to crown Napoleon emperor). Last week the auxiliary bishop in Venice quoted the Pope as saying casually: "You know, I hope I'll be able to attend the closing of the centenary celebration of Lourdes, and I also hope to pay a visit to my beloved Venice...
