Rumanians learned of the parting with dour thoughts, Jugoslavs with joy. Reason: Queen Marie of Jugoslavia carried home to Belgrade in her special train, last week, documents transferring to her a huge cash legacy from her late father, King Ferdinand of Rumania (TIME, Aug. i). Generous, the bequest amounts to 80,000,000 lei ($4,800,000), a sour grape for Rumanians, a plump plum for Jugoslavs...

...only one U. S. journalist has had the manly gumption to go jungaleering in Nicaragua and cable home true details of the war now being fought between U. S. Marines and the indomitable Nicaraguan guerilla, General Augusto Calderon Sandino (TIME, Aug. 1). The unique jungle journalist is Carleton Beals, now special correspondent in Nicaragua for The Nation, liberal, trenchant, enterprising Manhattan weekly review. ...Prince Carol abdicated of his own free will, and in Italy where he could scarcely have been forcibly brought to do so (TIME, Jan. 11, 1926), he began almost at once to itch for the sceptre which would otherwise have been his when King Ferdinand of Rumania died (TIME, Aug. 1). The reasons for his abdication may remain forever partially obscure, but it is clear that they originated in his desire to escape the responsibilities of rank and dwell inconspicuously with various ladies. The latest of these, Mme. Magda Lupescu, comely Jewess, was sharing Prince Carol's suite...

...forgotten Dictator Theodore Pangalos? Less than two years ago he was master of Greece. Hard, cynical and perpetually sneering, he domineered. Then a coup d'état similar to that by which he had seized power upset him and he was clapped into jail (TIME, Aug...
