...tour leader for the pleasures of Cat and Mouse is a dapper veteran detective, Lechat (Serge Reggiani), who goes on a wild chase to discover whether a philandering millionaire (Jean-Pierre Aumont) was indeed murdered by his jealous wife (Michele Morgan). The plot is complex and at times ingenious, but it is mainly an excuse for Lelouch to indulge his romantic reveries. Almost every character in the film falls in love at least once, usually with idyllic effect. The liaisons are delightfully improbable. Antagonists Reggiani and Morgan both carry on with gorgeous lovers half their age before making a beeline...
...holds him for ransom on an isolated farm while threatening to kill him if their demands are not met by the government. Eventually he and his captors all die in a police action that looks like a rescue operation but is planned from the start by its leader (Michel Aumont) as a massacre. Throughout, Chabrol scores the kind of points one expects from him. Most of the Nada gang are working out their personal problems through political activity. The same may be said of their official pursuers up to the highest level of the French government, whose ministers and bureaucrats...
...Night. Another sweet movie by Truffaut, this may be more autobiographical than the others (400 Blows was the first in the line), as he plays himself. Starring Jean-Pierre Leaud, Jean-Pierre Aumont, Jacqueline Bisset, and Valentina Cortese, it is about the making of a movie called "Meet Pamela." Truffaut is perhaps too enamored, wistfully so, of his material--movie-making comes off as an experiment in building T-group togetherness. The actors live harder than the parts they play, high all the time off the magic of movie-making. The movie itself is pieced together out of bits...
...cast and crew abound in the sort of personalities that would be recognizable in any film company. There is the eager, flustered young leading man (Jean-Pierre Léaud); the older leading man with the assurance of experience (Jean-Pierre Aumont); and the older leading woman who drinks too much and muddles her scenes (Valentina Cortèse). There is the young leading woman, an American who has just recovered from a nervous breakdown and is making her first film in over a year (Jacqueline Bisset); the film groupie who starts out as a script girl and ends...
...opinion of him as an actor is much higher than my opinion of him as a man." Huston started out as director in The Last Run, now being filmed in Spain, but he and Scott clashed over the actor's objections to script rewrites and the leading lady, Tina Aumont. There were shouting matches between Scott and Huston in the early hours of the morning. Huston eventually departed, and so did Tina Aumont. The film is now being finished under the direction of Richard Fleischer. Scott, who realistically maintains that "I can still make more money in films than...
