Pick of the Quick. Angel of the Albright is a peppery Buffalo booster, Woolworth Heir and Banker Seymour H. Knox, who, back in the 1930s, captained his home-town East Aurora polo team in international matches. Putting up $100,000 in 1939 to launch the Contemporary Room, "Shorty" Knox, who had previously boasted little more than one lone Utrillo, was soon head over heels in love with modern art. In the last eleven years, Yaleman ('20) Knox has donated 75 paintings and sculptures, of which more than half are products of the current decade...

Rise & Break. Ball clubs came to Clearwater last week from as far off as California and Canada, but the favorites in the tournament were the Aurora, Ill. Sealmasters (ball bearings), the Raybestos (brake lining) Cardinals of Stratford, Conn., and the town-sponsored Clearwater Bombers, the defending champions. Some of these stations will do exciting things, such as shooting rockets to the top of the atmosphere or launching great balloons with instrument-packed gondolas. The duties of others will be exciting only to dedicated specialists: monotonous observations of winds, ocean currents, cosmic rays, the aurora, changes in the sun's surface, fading of radio waves and twinkling of stars. But all such observations will be important, and the data flowing from them will be carefully stored and catalogued in designated centers...
