...rather an uncommon plot and is a well written and interesting story. "Chatterton, - A Tragedy" by Knoblanch, who has just been elected an editor of the Advocate, is a natural story and is really pathetic. "A Bowl of Roses" a short poem by Chamberlin is an improvement on the author's former efforts. "The Wedding Guest" is a readable and amusing story though it has absolutely no plot "Two Sketches" by J. A. Gade and P. LaRose are fair. Gade's "On the Bou evard des Italiens" is much the better of the two and is very promising. "The Turning...

...contains some good character sketches. A dainty bit of poetry is "Egotism" by E. S. Martin. "The Birds That We See" is an article by E. Thompson. It is a sketch of the habits and peculiarities of some of the commoner New England birds, with illustrations by the author. "The Opinions of a Philosopher" is the first installment of a new serial by Robert Grant, the author of "Reflections of a Married Man," lately published. ...Sailing Yacht of Today" is a good treatment of the subject by C. L. Norton. The paper is illustrated with a number of diagrams. "An Apache Dance" by Nantan Lupan is very interesting. S. Scoville has another article on Athletic Records, Past and Present." The author compares new records with those of the past in a very good paper, finding 'that in all field events and in the track events through the mile we are far superior to our grand parents." "A Dangerous Sidepath" by John Seymour Wood is a typical Outing love story. The heroine is a great bicyclist...

...Copeland, Instructor in English, is the author of an article "Miss Austin and Miss Ferrier; Contrast and Comparison." Its nature is sufficiently indicated by its name. We need only say that the article is plentifully supplied with quotations and is very interesting reading. The other articles in the number are unusually good. The best are "Pygmies of Africa" by John Dean Caton who has often before been a contributor to the Monthly, "The Hayes Administration" by John Cox, and for lovers of nature a charming and interesting article by Olive Thorne Miller entitled "At Four O'Clock in the Morning...
