...using the conventional debate format, which puts too much emphasis on one-liners, superficial answers and images, each candidate would appear alone for a wide-open discussion with extensive follow-up. Each appearance (address plus questioning) would take about an hour, and the candidates could be videotaped simultaneously to avoid giving either the advantage of going second. The two presentations could then be broadcast during that week. The idea is to allow the voters to see how the candidates address the major issues in reasonable juxtaposition...
