...Reconnecting with classmates often offers a second challenge. Having attended Harvard-Radcliffe in a different time, many LGBT alumni were not “out” as undergraduates. Coming back can mean having to come out all over again and potentially have a set of awkward conversations and even encounter rejection – an experience few want to relive. And then add in the fact that, even for those of us (like me) who were “out” and don’t have to worry about having to come out all over again...
...awkward as it was to watch Palin try to explain to ABC's Charles Gibson why taxpayers should pay to study the mating habits of Alaskan crabs, voters probably won't mind that Palin doesn't really hate pork as long as it's hers. What could be a real problem for the GOP ticket would be voters recognizing that McCain really does hate pork - not only when it's Palin's, but when it's theirs...
...point she is discovered burning her tampons, symbolizing her desire not to become a woman. That's an understandable feeling, given the adult company she's been obliged to keep. It is merely awkward and desperate, like everything else in this film, which is, in fact - and I'm choosing my words carefully here - one of the worst movies I've ever seen...
...What drives modern physicists forward is a quest for purer beauty. The Standard Model, the theoretical framework that incorporates all current knowledge about the interaction of subatomic particles, is the closest physicists currently have to a theory of everything. But it is becoming increasingly awkward and messy, and it has holes in it. For example, despite all the gravitational forces that should be reining the universe in and slowing it down, it is expanding at a quickening rate. No one knows why. And something seems to cocoon the universe's spiral galaxies, keeping them from spinning out of control...
...Doing TV - first on CNN with Tucker Carlson, then exclusively on MSNBC - Maddow at first showed jitters. She didn't look comfortable with the ludicrous compression of arguments, the need to drown out other guests to get a point across. The casual-garbed Maddow also felt awkward having to "dress like a Senator" on TV. But as her radio work proved, Maddow's a quick study. She got on top of the medium quickly. Certainly the MSNBC brass thinks so. Otherwise they wouldn't have dumped Dan Abrams' The Verdict to make room...
