Experiments in Colorado date back to 1926. They were abandoned in 1929 as unnecessary when new petroleum reserves started coming in, were revived during the wartime oil shortage. This week Cummings was back in Chicago to tell his board of directors what he had learned. As a starter, Cummings would redesign most of the stores in the country by throwing out the counter.
