Before the scrimmage, Foster and Newhall tried punting, under the direction of Coach Brown, while Gray, Lincoln, Grosvenor, Tweed, Starr and Taylor practiced catching the ball and running it back. ...From the beginning Sulloway assumed the offensive and won the first set by good placing and clever net work, frequently drawing Chase out of position. The next set was won by similar tactics. Chase, however, played a very much better game in this set, being particularly good on his back-line shots. In the third set Sulloway played more on the defensive, seldom running up to the net. Chase made some very good shots at the net, but nevertheless was often passed by Sulloway's clever placing. The match on the whole was very interesting and well-played throughout...
