...seem erroneous, and arise from the same cause, namely, failure to look at the case in the proper light. It should not be forgotten that a representative government is such only so long as the whole people are represented, the intelligent and good as well as the ignorant and bad, and that, as a small force is not unfrequently big in result, the indication of the choice of the University in this matter may be effective in securing the nomination of some man who is a type of the best American citizen.
