...major portion of Agca's testimony will undoubtedly focus on the so-called ( Bulgarian connection: the prosecution's contention that Agca and a co- conspirator were hired by three Bulgarians to carry out the killing. Only one of the three, Sergei Antonov, 46, ex-chief of the Balkan Bulgarian Airlines office in Rome, is being held by the Italians. Perhaps the most important figure indicted last week is Sergei Ivanov Antonov, 36, head of Bulgaria's Balkan Airlines office in Rome at the time of the assassination attempt and allegedly the plot's leader. Antonov remained in Italy even after authorities began to investigate the "Bulgarian connection" and was arrested in November 1982. They have even come to gesture alike, with Mary Lou pounding a fist into a palm when a routine goes well and summoning a Balkan shrug when it does not. Says Karolyi: "It's an excellent kid, Mary Lou. She's so powerful physically, and she's mentally powerful too. I was teaching gymnastics 25 years, and had many world and Olympic champions. But I never had somebody more positive and dedicated...
...schnapps made from plums, is still holding out. Zivjeli! ("Bottoms up!" in Serbo-Croatian). All reserves may be needed, however, before the closing ceremony, Feb. 19. The proud and fiery Yugoslavs have quelled their tendency to airy improvisation, and they have succeeded against considerable odds in transforming an amiable Balkan backwater into a cred ible third-rank winter resort. This is a lot higher up in the rankings than any visitor to the grim and snowless 1980 Olympics would place Lake Placid, N.Y. (First-rank resorts like Saint-Moritz or Sun Valley generally don't want the Olympics these days...
