...that we need to react early to small threats before they grow into apocalyptic battles for civilization, by which he seems to mean that the feudal states of Europe should have built a proto-alliance (of the willing) to hunt out the Ottomans when they were still just Balkan colonists. ...time Olympian jumped off a third-floor balcony after quarreling with her boyfriend, kickboxer Yiorgos Chrysostomidis, just hours before she was to enter the athletes' Village. Chrysostomidis later jumped from the same balcony but survived. Ioannou took up judo only about four years ago but won bronze at the Balkan Games in 2003. Stojkovic, who fled Yugoslavia in 1991 just before the Balkan wars broke out, is on the front lines of the cloning wars. He helped clone mammals at the University of Munich before going to Britain. Now, using a technique similar to one recently demonstrated in South Korea, he plans to create embryos by injecting a patient's DNA into an egg from which the genetic material has been removed. He then hopes to harvest the embryonic stem cells--which can develop into almost any organ--and coax them to produce insulin in diabetics. Stem cells may also hold promise...
