Next month will be published the second part of Prof. Francis J. Child's work, "The English and Scottish Popular Ballads," the first of which has just appeared. Each ballad has a carefully prepared preface by the editor, or one of his contributors, excepting in the case of those ballads which the English have in common with other nations.
