Front row, from left to right: Frederic L. Ballard, Jr. '63, of Dunster House and Chestnut Hill, Pa. (President), Richard B. Ruge '63, of Dunster House and Washington, D. C. (Mangaing Editor), Arthur G. Sachs '63, of Leverett House and Pound Ridge, N.Y. (Business Manager), and Robert W. Gordon '63, of Eliot House and Rio de Janeiro (Editorial Chairman...
...full of scenic wonders-a Carlsbad spa with fountains spouting real water, a Christmas vision of Old Vienna filigreed in confectioner's icing, a wedding extravaganza such as only Broadway angels can afford. In and about these Oliver Smith settings cavort the Wiener Burger, garbed by Lucinda Ballard in resplendent turn-of-the-century costumes. Unfortunately, there is little more to this comic operetta than meets the eye, or greets the ear in a waltzy-schmalzy score. The best way to simulate an evening at The Gay Life is to do what is done onstage: open two bottles...
...alma mater. But to base an article on such attitudes; and thereby to suggest as "Student Prince" did, that because one school is different from another it is Ipso facts inferior, is dangerously to approach the fault from which the CRIMSON is generally so free: irresponsible journalism. Ballard's article was rightly confined to the CRIMSON's editorial page. Perhaps he should read ours for a more accurate representation of the Princeton man's interests. James F. Robinson, Editorial Chairman, The Daily Princetonian...
...Frederic Ballard's article in the CRIMSON of October 30 describing the "bomb scare" at Jordan Hall during a speech by Dr. C. Eric Lincoln concerning the Black Muslims, a militant Afro-American protest movement. By describing Lincoln's speech as a "bitter attack" and by mentioning that part of his speech which dealt with "the membership of the Black Muslims, and in particular, their 'secret military office,'" the article implies that the Muslims might have been behind the bomb threat. The article emphasizes the importance of the Muslims in this affair by excluding the John Birch Society...
Togetherness. Like other skyjacked pilots before him. Captain Carl Ballard attempted to bluff his way out. The fuel on board was inadequate for an 1,100-mile over-water flight to Cuba, he protested. "All right,'' answered Cadon nonchalantly, "we'll all go down together.'' Ballard shrugged and set a new heading. To Mexico City airport controllers, awaiting his overdue call, he reported himself 200 miles away over Veracruz, added cryptically: "I estimate my arrival time at Havana will be 12:35 Mexico time." At one point Cadon, who said he had once served...
