...convention had been in uninterrupted session for six and a half hours. At the outer gates, galleryites were beginning to arrive for the night session. Up to the microphone stepped Chairman Sam Jackson to pull the neatest parliamentary trick of the convention. He announced that Ballot II would be taken immediately, and that, since there was no recess, the convention was still in afternoon session and no tickets for the night meeting would be honored.
