...Delaware represents parts of Vice President Joe Biden's hometown. While others may be waiting for the Virginia and New Jersey 2009 gubernatorial elections as bellwethers for 2010, we have been focusing on rebuilding the party from the grass roots up - through recruiting, training and supporting down-ballot candidates for state office. The party has a bright future. It is being built in the states where the next generation of leaders is winning elections by advancing new ideas while adhering to conservative principles. ...once I got to Los Angeles, I learned that the East Coast version of democracy is weak. In L.A. we vote all the time, on everything. We've already voted twice since everybody else last voted in November. Thanks to the endless ballot-initiative system, in the four years that I've been here, I've voted on all kinds of stuff I have absolutely no understanding of: high-speed rail lines (yes!), port security (sure!), children's-hospital bonds (of course!) and how chickens should be housed (humanely and not by me!). "It would be great if [the new ballot initiative] would be successful, but ... a loss would be very unfortunate - two successive popular vote losses in the nation's largest and one of the most liberal states. I'm not quite sure I follow the risk-benefit analysis." That's exactly what gay-rights activists worried about this suit have been thinking...

...indicted on corruption charges and soon thereafter impeached. While we demanded more accountability among elected officials, we asked for more freedom for all Americans. This year could have been an important one in terms of securing the right to marriage for gay couples, with according referenda on the ballot in several states. Unfortunately, special interest groups had such an influence that the majority of people in those states voted to deny rights to a significant minority. We were strongly against Prop 8 in California and its equivalent in other states; now, we hope that these referenda will be overturned...
