Most marvelous results of the ten years digging were dinosaur eggs, baluchitheria, and rats which lived with dinosaurs. In 1900 Dr. Henry Fairfield Osborn, paleontologist, predicted the finding of great fossil beds in Central Asia. That region, argued Dr. Osborn, was the dispersal point for many species of animals. Man too must have originated there. Dr. Andrews found places among the Gobi dunes where groups of humans once lived. But he could find no traces of very ancient human bones, nor of protohuman fossils. Simple Chinese use fossil bones, which they call dragon bones, for medicine. Way to test...
...discoveries have strengthened the theory that Asia was the point of dispersal of Mammalia. Civic ructions impeded his work last year (TIME, April 26, 1926), but last spring he was off again to try and add evidence of humans to his unparalleled find of dinosaurs and their eggs, baluchitheria...
...that young man, Roy Chapman Andrews, industriously raised half a million dollars to take a band of assorted scientists into the Gobi for five years of intensive digging. As every one knows, the Andrews expeditions have thus far unearthed sufficient in the way of dinosaur skeletons and eggs, rare baluchitheria and traces of Mousiterian man to substantiate Dr. Osborn's hypothesis in spectacular fashion (TIME, Oct. 29, 1923, et seq.). The program has been extended and paleontological portents impend for four years to come. "Asia is the mother of the continents...
