Mabry Jenkins' open-eyed adventures among the Philistines are at times tedious at times banal, at times almost hilarious but this book has limited appeal--you might read it because you read North Dallas Forty, in which case you won't like it as well as you like the previous book. ...difficult, and Gayle Moran has the training but not the panache to sing them convincingly (where O where is Flora Purim?). Bassist Stanley Clarke cannot sing well--and on this date he sounds like he has both a head cold and a bad case of stage fright. The banal lyrics don't help matters...
