...that's about all the mystery you are going to get. The other songs are in banal-cute popenglish, which is that language which rhymes every so often at the cost of linear narrative or even fundamental sense: "I'll be your Baba Papa/I'll be you Baba Papa/If you'll be a BaBa Papa to me." Okay. What do you say to that? You just bob your head along and agree...

Despite these omissions, Ward's version of heaven is stunning on purely visual terms. Eduardo Serra, the cinematographer who gave The Wings of the Dove a lush color scheme resembling fresh paint, goes further by setting the early scenes of heaven actually in a painting. There was a stretch in Minnesota and Wisconsin where there were definitely more Pizza Huts than grocery stores...

...standing on a turntable, wearing an outfit of Ray's design. She revolves once, and then we cut to the same model wearing a different dress. There are about a hundred of these changes in the course of the 12 minutes the film lasts, and every outfit is as banal as the last. It's meant (one presumes) to satirize the cultural pretensions of the upper reaches of the rag trade: Warhol with the glamour taken out. It makes for a very long 12 minutes...
