...June 11.--The men, with the exception of Bancroft, who is slightly indisposed this afternoon, are well and in good condition. In the morning the four-oar took a short row and the University crew paddled down-stream to the Navy Yard. In the afternoon, in spite of the rain, both crews went out. Francis took Bancroft's place at 7, Smith moving into 3, and Covel to bow in the four-oar. ...Freshman crew took a short row up-stream yesterday afternoon, coached by R. F. Blake '99 and H. Bancroft '97, and showed some improvement over the work of last week. Although some of the men still have a tendency to wash out at the finish, the leg drive is stronger and the whole crew seems to have more life. The stroke rowed, however, is very slow, and when it is quickened the work becomes ragged, and the boat rolls. The crew will probably take a harder row today in the new shell built by Davy for use in the race...
