This story, given to the House Appropriations Committee last week, highlighted a fast-growing problem in both medicine and crime. The pills were amphetamine,* which users call "goof balls" or "bennies." They produce a feeling of exhilaration, temporarily banish fatigue, and seem to sharpen the perceptions.
