Weinstein and Yee seem to have tried to strike a balance between dramatizing character development and bringing concrete action to the stage, but the latter often works better than the former. Blocks of monologue, rather than quick banter or fast-moving action, mark the development of the story. ...characters seem to be speaking not only to each other, but to an audience who can sympathize with their confused plight. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are always waiting for someone important--Hamlet, Claudius, or Polonius--to tell them what to do.
