...Great is the dispute between U. S. and foreign bell-makers as to their relative skill in casting carillons. The issue cropped up hotly before the Senate Committee last week in connection with the carillon purchased in England by John D. Rockefeller Jr. for Manhattan's Park Avenue Baptist Church. When first the Russian Communists started to undermine the power of the Russian Orthodox Church they welcomed into their country Baptists, Methodists, helped thereby to create factions in the Orthodox Church and weaken it. In time however, the Baptists grew so strong that not only was Russian Orthodoxy threatened but also Russian Atheism.
