...tack in liberated Europe: the doctrine of "abstention" initiated two weeks ago by the U.S. refusal to guarantee Poland's boundaries. However well and democratically meant, however high the motives behind the policy, it was a shot in the arm for U.S. isolationism; it was also a bare-knuckle blow to Britain...

...Memories. In his bare little office in Tacloban, small, silent President Sergio Osmeña toiled at the multiple tasks of the new Government. He moved with tolerance and caution. After Corregidor's surrender, thousands of Filipinos had accepted Japanese "Kalibapi cards" and joined Japanese "neighborhood associations," simply to go on living and eating. On his retirement in 1937, Dr. Guthrie paid his respects...

Some Hollanders claimed they had seen V-2 launched from bare ground; others, from 80-ft. concrete pits. Some experts thought it could have been launched from barges off the Dutch coast. V-2 was variously reported to be guided by radio, by gyro compass, by fins, by spinning. But on one thing experts agreed: V-2 is a self-contained rocket, carrying its own oxygen and traveling...
