...individual trophies for the members of last year's Yale crew have been completed and distributed. They are in the form of a cigar cutter, of Roman gold. On one side, in bas-relief, is a raised facsimile of the flags won in the race. Lying across the flags are represented an oar and rudder. On the reverse side is the following inscription: "1889, Yale versus Harvard, won by Yale." Then follows the name of the owner of the trophy, and his position in the boat. They are the most artistic trophies that have ever been given...
