Amherst came to the bat in the ninth inning, with the score 7 to 5 against her, but a hit and base on balls, followed by a costly passed ball by Kernan, let in two runs, which tied the score, 7 to 7. Matthews opened the last half of the inning for Harvard with a base-hit, and stole second. Clarkson then brought in the winning run with a timely two-base hit, thus relieving a serious situation...
...game was, perhaps, the most discouraging played this year, for in addition to the team's customary weakness in batting, several very costly and inexcusable fielding errors were made. The base-running, too, was deplorably spiritless, three men, being caught between bases. Clarkson seemed to lack a little of his usual steadiness in the box, for, although he succeeded in striking out seven men, he allowed four bases on balls, and hit two men. ...second baseball squad is now composed of twenty men, eleven of whom will be taken to the training table, which will be started the middle of next week. Murphy, short-stop, Greenough, right field, and Fischel, first base have been dropped from the University squad and have joined the second nine. Adams, left field and Bolton, third base both of last year's Freshman team, are the most likely candidates for their respective positions. Parker, catcher, Lovering center field, and Marshall, second base were members of last year's team, so that, with the promising new material, the chances...
