...first game, which was played on Saturday, April 14, with the University of Virginia, was easily won by a score of 7 to 0, Virginia being able to get only one man past second base. The team played well together, the batting was good and the base-running showed improvement over recent games. In bunting, however, the men showed unusual weakness. Loughlin made four brilliant catches in centre-field in addition to a two-base hit. Coolidge at shortstop fielded his position without an error, and Fincke made three base-hits in four times at the bat. Stillman pitched...

Third base is not as strong as short-stop. Ewer, who is also a promising candidate for the outfield, throws, fields, and bats well. He shows good judgement, but is hampered at third by being left handed. Both Clay and G. C. Clark throw and bat well, but are slow. Clay is besides stiff and his head work is poor, while Clark's is very good...

...positions in the field are more uncertain and will depend in a large measure on the batting. Loughlin shows far more judgment and does better fielding work than any of the others, though his throwing is rather weak. In batting he fails to pick the ball cleanly off the bat. Jaynes lacks experience and is weak in flies that come over his head, but he is improving in batting. Christenson's work, though fair, needs activity and life. Stewart is another one of the men who are constantly improving as they gain more experience. His work on the bases...

...Freshman baseball squad was cut down for the fifth time Saturday afternoon and is now reduced to twenty-two men. The team is still weak at first base and behind the bat, but the infield is fairly promising. There is excellent pitching material. As there have been only two days of out-door practice, very little can be said of the outfield. Saturday afternoon two nines were picked and a five inning game was played. The following men, not including the batteries, make up the squad: First base--Baldwin, Foster, Lancy; second base--Daly, Jackson, Black; third base -- Forsman, Story...

Loughlin, Jaynes, Wendell, Christenson, Stewart and Wood are the candidates for the outfield. Of these, Loughlin, Wendell and Christenson are doing the best work at the bat. Jaynes is doing well except for his batting which is still weak. Stewart and Wood throw well, and improvement at the bat would make them strong candidates. In addition to these men, Stillman and Kernan, should they not pitch, would make good fielders...
