...enthusiastic mass meeting was held last evening in the Union to practice the cheers and songs for the game with Yale this afternoon. A short form of the regular cheer was tried with great success and will be used in cheering the men as they come to bat this afternoon. In this cheer the "Harvard" are pronounced as one syllable and the cheer is given much faster than the regular one. Several speeches were made, and R. Oveson '05 introduced the speakers...

Holy Cross, first at bat, made one run in the first inning, when Hoey hit past Matthews, was advanced by Reilly and scored on Carrigan's single. In this for Harvard, Kernan made his base balls and Leonard was safe on a wild throw. Both were advanced by a passed ball and scored on Stephenson's hit. Dexter's single then brought in Matthews. In the second inning a base on balls, Barry's three-bagger, and Hoey's single gave Holy Cross two more runs. Kernan and Leonard, in this inning, scored on the latter's fine home...

...defeat was largely due to the excellent pitching of Skillen, who allowed only five scattered hits and struck out eight men. The University team seemed unable to bat with any confidence. Most of the hits were ground balls to the infield and were easily handled by the fast fielding of the opposing team. Although Castle allowed two hits in the first, fourth and eighth innings, his work as a whole was very satisfactory, as he allowed only two other hits, struck out seven men and gave but one base on balls. Tweed, considering his lack of experience in large games...

Since the first game with Yale last Saturday, which was lost by inability to bat; the Freshmen have been given hard practice and have shown marked improvement in hitting. The infield, although still somewhat erratic, has steadied its play considerably. Last Wednesday the Yale freshmen won their second victory over the Princeton freshmen by the score of 5 to 4. Yale's victory was due to timely hitting and to a few brilliant plays, rather than to steady good playing. The consistently good work done by the Freshmen during the past week gives promise of a victory this afternoon, provided...

ITHACA, N. Y., MAY 16.--The Harvard cricket team defeated Cornell in a well played game today by a score of 164 to 102 runs. The victory of the Harvard team was due partly to superior batting and partly to the fact that Cornell's fielding was impaired by the heavy rain which fell while Harvard was at the bat. For Harvard Taylor's bowing was good, and Bonbright made the best score of the afternoon with a total of 95 runs. Walters and Sayce did the best playing for Cornell...
