...fielding was accurate on both sides and was as lively as could be expected, considering the cold weather. Harvard was very weak at the bat, and Brown showed no special strength until the tenth inning. An encouraging feature about Harvard's batting was that every man who reached first was advanced either by a hit or a sacrifice. Loughlin led Harvard's batting with two hits, but was put out both times through reckless base running. In the field, Coolidge and Kendall played the best game for Harvard. The feature of Brown's play was Captain Clark's batting, which...
When Harvard went to bat the first few wickets fell in quick succession and it became Harvard's policy to play for a draw, which was secured with two wickets to spare. MacNeill batted in best shape for Harvard, running up double-figures. Harvard. A. Drinkwater, b. Hird, 4 J. H. A. L. Fairweather, l.b.w. Hird, 0 MacNeill, run out, 11 H. H. Lowry, c. Stirks, b. ...Freshmen showed improvement over yesterday's game, in their fielding, but their batting was deplorably weak. Clarkson pitched an excellent game, striking out 17 men, and giving Dean only two base hits. He also led the team in batting, making three base-hits out of four times at bat. The infield showed a good amount of snap and life playing their positions without an error. Bartlett at catch, made two costly errors and his throws to second were all very wild. Lancy, who was tried at first-base, in place of Foster, fielded his position satisfactorily but was weak...
...Freshman nine was defeated in a well played game yesterday afternoon by the Cambridge High and Latin School, by a score of 4 to 0. The chief cause of the defeat was poor batting by the entire team; but one hit was made, and the ball was seldom knocked out of the infield. Coonley, who pitched, has had little practice, but did fairly well and with good support would probably have won his game. Neither Bartlett nor Marean caught satisfactorily, both throwing poorly and dropping many pitched balls. Foster, at first base, was also weak in fielding and at times...
...first game of the trip, played on April 11, Yale beat Fordham by a score of 10 to 7. Fordham gained a lead at the start, but after two innings Robertson settled down and the Yale men began to bat harder, winning without any difficulty. The next day Yale lost to Georgetown by 7 to 4 through inability to hit White. On the 13th Yale won a loosely played game from the University of Maryland, 10 to 8. Maryland made thirteen hits to Yale's eight, but lost the game by making nine errors. The best played game...
